Even today the myths and misconceptions about the function of basic electrical systems results in over 1000 deaths, 12,000 serious burn injuries and 150,000 home fires. Water won’t short out an electrical circuit and electricity doesn’t always take the path of least resistance “unlike humans”. Classroom experiments and demonstrations are used to explore the myths & mysteries for all to see and comprehend. Unfortunately OSHA and MSHA don’t tell us how to protect from electrical hazards, but NFPA 70E does. We will dig into the key elements of the 2018 edition. We’ll explore the shock and arc boundary tables, and the required PPE for exposed electrical work, and the reasons behind them. The use of slides, videos and demonstrations bring these hazards to life as never before. Even our seasoned vets come away with an expanded appreciation for the dangers. NFPA 70E is and will remain the key method of achieving an effective electrical safety program. (Warning this session contains graphic photos and details of electrical accidents)
